This adaptation of Shannon Chakraborty’s best-selling novel, “The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi”, takes us all on a fantastical voyage across the Indian Ocean with our anti-hero at the helm. After a storied and scandalous career as one of the most notorious pirates to have sailed during the thick of the Crusades, Amina is grateful to have survived backstabbing rogues, vengeful merchant princes, several husbands, and one actual demon to slip away quietly with her family to a life of piety and hopeful redemption. But when she’s tracked down by the wealthy mother of a former crewman, she’s offered a job no mother or cut-throat pirate could refuse: retrieve her comrade’s kidnapped daughter for life-altering riches.

The Secret Magdalene is an imaginative retelling of the “greatest story ever told”; where Judas is a loyal man, Lazarus never dies, the crucifixion is planned, and Mary Magdalene takes the name of John the Less to act as Jesus’ closest disciple and teacher.
