FlipNarrative launch FlipX
The term “social responsibility” is something that is thrown around quite loosely these days. For the team at FlipNarrative, it’s certainly not a cause we take lightly. Ever since our inception, the upliftment of underrepresented talent is a major purpose for our existence as a company. There may be thousands of undiscovered gems out there; from housewives with a concept for a great screenplay to a local actor looking for a path to a bigger stage. It’s our mission to help shape these dreams in any way we can.
It’s to this aim that we launched FlipX, a creative exchange of expertise, information and insight. This educational initiative is focused on the development of talent in the entertainment industry, particularly within the Middle East, North African and South Asian regions at first. FlipNarrative is well positioned in the nexus between ambitious, developing talent and industry leaders. We plan to leverage our extensive industry network to firstly create the platforms to unearth new artists, then connect them with relevant experts within our trade.
Waleed Zuaiter in “Gangs of London”
The first program launched under the FlipX banner will be The Actors Masterclass, hosted by FlipNarrative’s founder, Waleed Zuaiter. Waleed is a BAFTA-nominated actor and Academy Award-nominated producer, with an impressive international profile and a career spanning across theatre, film and television over the last three decades. Zuaiter headlined the all-star cast in Fremantle/Euston Films’ & Channel 4 UK’s Baghdad Central, which premiered to rave reviews in the UK, the MENA region and in the US. Waleed produced and starred in OMAR, which was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2014 Academy Awards and won the Special Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival (2013), the Grand Prize - Best Feature at the Dubai International Film Festival (2013), Best Film at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards (2013), and many other accolades around the globe. Waleed also starred in the award-winning series Gangs of London and Netflix’s Altered Carbon.
In 2022, Waleed and Joana Zuaiter were invited by Imagenation to host an Acting Workshop in Abu Dhabi and this experience became part of the blueprint for FlipX’s Actors Masterclass. The diverse group of budding and reputable Emirati actors benefited from Waleed’s advanced methods to hone their craft further. We have utilized these same practices in our Actors Masterclass. Participants will gain invaluable knowledge and insights on the regional and global industry from Waleed Zuaiter’s vast experience. The added value of this program is to not only educate but also to give our most promising participants a foot in the door to audition for relevant roles currently casting in the region or abroad.
